WWT Castle Espie

My WWT (Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust) membership is paid for another year. I like the direct debit when it comes to charity, because it means you do not forget to renew your membership. In Northern Ireland we WWT Castle Espie, located in the upper left corner of Strangford Lough. It is based on the former site of the lime of the Castle Espie, bricks and ceramic works, which was in production between 1850 and 1879. After my family bought Murland family in 1885 before selling to the Dickson family, which includes the adjacent Quarry Farm in 1912. WWT Castle Espie is a wetland which has recently undergone a massive cost million makeover, and it seems as if the money was well spent. In 2007, the Heritage Lottery Fund to the WWT was a grant of almost £ 3 million pounds to a restoration of intertidal habitats and freshwater at Castle Espie with the idea of promoting a greater number of waders and Castle duck race and not to improve. In addition, also have built a fabulous new visitors center. You park in the parking lot of the forest, where you can find Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tit and Goldfinch in larch. Then make your way to the front of the building. Entering the building CASTLE ENTRY ESPIEYou WWT and is a very long room, located on the far left Loughshore Coffee, and a reception at the center of the building and a shop to gallery space and a theater on the far right. The shop is excellent, and in my opinion one of the best places in Northern Ireland to purchase bird feeders and bird feeder accessories. They also have a good selection of books and clothing. The rear of the building overlooking the lake and pools, where the ducks are in collection, which is the largest in Ireland. There is also a nice bronze WWT founder Sir Peter Scott. Sir Peter SCOTTQuite near the building have a food body in a platform where local backyard birds can be found. Robin, Parus ater, chaffinch, blackbird, collared dove, Blue Tit, Parus major. Infact at the moment is not well protected plants from bright orange fences and bare soil. However, you imagine what will be, will grow in a few years to where it all began. In the center of the central lagoon of the WWT Crannog one built, that is, an artificial island and home. Were common in medieval and prehistoric times, and there are at least 2000 copies in Ireland. Infact most of the world population of Brent Geese winter here in Strangford Lough. BRENT GEESEI think in few years will be as bright and the weektime be a great place for lunch. Unfortunately, James Orr, director of the environment is to leave the Castle Espie, but I think now is a great legacy for the years in which we can be proud.
